The selection of CNC tool holders should be based on the requirements of the machining process. Different machining methods require different CNC tool holders. The selection should be made according to the machining capabilities of the machine tool, the properties of the workpiece material, the machining procedures, cutting amounts, and other relevant factors. The principles for selecting CNC tool holders are: good rigidity, high durability, and high precision. Under the premise of meeting machining requirements, it is advisable to choose shorter tool holders to improve the rigidity of CNC tool holder machining.
According to the cutting motion method and the corresponding blade shape, the application of CNC tool holders can be divided into three categories.
1. General CNC tool holders, including turning tools, planing tools, milling cutters (excluding shaped turning tools, shaped planing tools, and shaped milling cutters), boring tools, drill bits, reamers, and saws, etc.;
2. Shaped CNC tool holders, which have cutting edges that are the same or very similar in shape to the cross-section of the workpiece being processed, such as shaped turning tools, shaped planing tools, shaped milling cutters, pull tools, conical reamers, and various threaded processing CNC tool holders, etc.;
3. Tools for processing gear tooth surfaces or similar workpieces, such as hob cutters, slotting cutters, shaving cutters, conical gear planers, and conical gear milling cutter discs, etc.
When selecting CNC tool holders, the size of the CNC tool holder should match the surface size of the workpiece being processed. In production, for machining the peripheral profile of flat parts, vertical milling cutters are often used; when milling flat surfaces, tool holders for hard alloy blade milling cutters should be selected; for processing bosses and grooves, high-speed steel vertical milling cutters should be chosen; for processing rough surfaces or rough holes, corn milling cutters with hard alloy inserts can be selected; for machining some three-dimensional surfaces and variable angle profiles, tool holders for ball end mills, ring milling cutters, conical milling cutters, and disc milling cutters are commonly used.
